Day 1: Arrival in Tangier and Journey to Chefchaouen
Upon arrival at Tangier port or airport, you will be greeted warmly and taken to visit the famous Hercules Cave, a notable landmark in Tangier. Then, travel through the scenic Rif Mountains to Chefchaouen, known for its striking blue buildings. Wander through the charming Medina and soak in your first experience of Moroccan culture. Spend the night in Chefchaouen.
Day 2: Chefchaouen to Fes via Volubilis and Meknes
Start your day with breakfast at your Riad, then travel through the lush Rif Mountains to the ancient Roman ruins of Volubilis. Explore this significant archaeological site before heading to Meknes, a city steeped in 17th-century history. Enjoy lunch and a tour of the historic Medina, including the impressive Bab El Mansour gate and the Mausoleum of Moulay Ismail. Arrive in Fes in the evening for an overnight stay in the heart of the Medina.
Day 3: Discovering Fes
Explore Fes, Morocco’s oldest city, with a guided tour that includes the Royal Palace gate, the Jewish quarter, and the first Mellah ever built. Wander through the Medina’s narrow alleys, bustling souks, and towering walls. After lunch at a local restaurant, visit the famous tanneries, Bou Inania Madrasa, and the University of Al Qarawiyyin. Return to your traditional Riad for the night.
Day 4: Journey to the Sahara Desert in Merzouga
Depart from Fes at 8 AM, traveling through the Middle Atlas mountains and the national park of Ifrane. Stop in Ifrane, often referred to as “the Switzerland of Morocco,” for coffee and photos. Continue to Azrou to see the Barbary Apes in their natural cedar forest habitat. After lunch in Midelt, cross the Tizi N Telghomt pass to Errachidia, taking in the spectacular views of the Ziz Gorges. Pause for a panoramic view of the Ziz Valley before continuing through Aoufous and Erfoud to the Erg Chebbi dunes. In the afternoon, tour the Majorelle Garden and explore the modern part of the city. Enjoy an evening to experience the bustling activities in Djemaa el Fna Square. Overnight in a traditional Riad.
Day 8: Marrakech to Essaouira
Travel to the coastal town of Essaouira, formerly known as Mogador. Famous for its local crafts, particularly thuja wood furniture and intricate carvings, Essaouira offers a unique artistic ambiance.
